Idlewild is an east Charlotte neighborhood named for its location along Idlewild Road. From medium-sized three-to-four bedroom homes to smaller two bedroom homes, Idlewild has a little something for everybody. Road construction has been prevalent along the Idlewild/East Independence Highway intersection as of late, with two new overpasses recently constructed to ease rush hour congestion. Similarly, a large portion of abandoned buildings along East Independence were destroyed in order to make room for a large, multi-purpose shopping and residential center within walking distance of the Idlewild community. The revitalization of East Independence Highway points to all east Charlotte neighborhoods only rising in value over the next few years.
